Essay Writing Times Chart
Essay Writing Times ChartA time line for essay writing can be a wonderful aid for your students as it allows them to set specific goals and limitations for themselves. One of the biggest mistakes that students make is setting writing goals that are so high that they cannot possibly be met in their own time frame.Unfortunately this results in students that can't even meet their deadlines because they are focused on the end date that they have given themselves. Some of the students do what is called a 'pull-out' which is an admission that they aren't going to finish. They just take a break from writing and hope the assignment will get done eventually. When you teach your students' goal setting it can be very easy to lose sight of the fact that they cannot reach certain goals unless you keep them moving. You have to get your students moving by making them think that they can make a certain goal happen. If you have students who set a deadline that they will not be able to meet, you need to remind them how long they have left. It may be as little as two weeks or as long as two semesters. You may even just do a simple spreadsheet where you write down the dates for each class assignment that they need to complete.Once you get them moving, make sure they are taking action every single day so that they are going to be ready when the time comes. By doing this, they are going to be ready to accept that they can't be the best writer in the class. The point here is to show them that they need to move forward every single day to meet their goals. That is exactly what essay writing is about; moving forward and meeting deadlines. We should expect to move forward daily, but when we don't see immediate results then we should be proactive. Let your students know that they must move forward every day to meet their goals. After you show them that they have to move ahead every single day, you also need to help them set a limit. Make sure they are moving at a steady pace that they can on ly go as fast as they can go, but never too fast that they get overwhelmed. Finally, make sure that they are not moving too far ahead or too far behind because these two things will lead to stress and overwhelm.Remember, your students may be going at such a fast pace but the things that they need to do daily are moving slower than usual. So always make sure that they have some time to catch up on these things.
